Questions.
Answered.
What does it cost?
€3.99. Once. No subscription, no account, and every update is free.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Enjoy every feature, free for three days. After that, a licence keeps the magic going.
How many Macs does a licence cover?
As many as you choose when you buy: one key for 1, 2, 3 or 5 Macs, and the more Macs, the less each costs. To move it to another Mac, deactivate it in Settings › Licence first.
Can I get a refund?
Absolutely. Within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked.
How do I activate my licence?
Your key arrives in your receipt email and appears in your Lemon Squeezy orders. Just click the notch (or open Settings › Licence), paste it in and press Activate. To move it to another Mac, deactivate it in Settings › Licence first.
Does my Mac need a notch?
Not at all. On displays without one, you choose in Settings: nothing at all, a notch drawn at the top of the screen, or a floating capsule in the menu bar. You can also pick which display the island lives on, in Settings or from Isly’s menu bar icon.
Which music apps does it work with?
Just about all of them. Music, Spotify, your browser and any other app that reports to the system. By default, Isly follows whatever played last. You can also pin it to Spotify or Apple Music, which adds shuffle and repeat, and favourites in Apple Music.
How does the shelf work?
Drag files onto the notch to keep them close. Then drag them out wherever you need them, one or several at once. Drop them on the AirDrop side to send them instead. Right-click a file to compress it, convert or shrink a picture, remove its background or copy the text in it. Click a file and press Space for Quick Look; ⌘C and ⌘V copy and paste, and new screenshots can land on the shelf by themselves. And while you’re dragging files anywhere, give the pointer a shake and a basket appears to drop them in. Nothing is copied or moved.
Can I control the music without opening the island?
Of course. Isly’s menu bar icon does everything the player does: play and pause, skipping, 15-second jumps, shuffle, repeat, favourites, the output and mute.
How do I open and close it?
Just click the notch, or scroll down on it. Keep scrolling to move between the player, calendar, shelf and timer. Scroll up a little to go back a tab, or all the way to close. Swipe sideways on the closed notch to skip a song.
macOS says it can’t open Isly. What now?
Isly isn’t notarized yet, so macOS asks before the first launch. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. You only do this once.
Which permissions does it ask for?
Every one of them is optional. Accessibility lets Isly replace the system volume and brightness HUD. Calendar and Reminders access show your events and today’s reminders. Focus status lets it show when a Focus turns on or off. Pinning Spotify or Apple Music asks once to control that app. Mirror asks for the camera, and the calendar’s weather for your location, only once you turn them on. Connecting the Claude Code extension adds a hook and a status line to Claude Code’s settings file (~/.claude/settings.json), which Disconnect removes again.
Does it work in full-screen apps?
Yes, it works just the same. If you’d rather it stay out of the way, turn on Settings › Displays › Narrow in full-screen apps: the music and the track preview then stay hidden, while volume and battery readouts still appear.
What does Isly know about me?
Almost nothing. There’s no account. To count trials, Isly tells isly.app when one starts on a Mac, and whether it becomes a licence, under a random ID made for that Mac; you can turn this off in Settings › Licence. With Spotify as the source, Isly loads the cover and one small public page per track from Spotify, to show the artwork and the explicit mark. If you turn on Lyrics, each song’s title, artist, album and length go to LRCLIB (lrclib.net) to find them. If you turn on the calendar’s weather, your approximate location goes to MET Norway for the forecast. The camera in Mirror never leaves your Mac.
Can other apps put things in the notch?
Yes. Turn on the Shortcuts extension, and Shortcuts, scripts and other apps can start their own Live Activities with an isly:// link, like isly://activity?text=Deploying&symbol=hammer.fill. Build finished, timer done, washing machine ready: whatever you like.
Which languages does Isly speak?
English, German, French and Spanish. Isly follows the language your Mac is set to.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 14 or later. The Liquid Glass effects, like the Lock Screen player’s glass, need macOS 26.
Does it respect my accessibility settings?
Always. With Reduce Motion on, nothing bounces and covers fade in instead of turning. With Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast, the island stays solid black, without glass or blur.
